Mohs = 7-7.5

Schorl is also known as Black Tourmaline.  It is the most common occurrence of tourmaline.  One of the interesting characteristics of Schorl is the fact that it is never found transparent or translucent.  Other forms of tourmaline do present translucence and transparency.
